CEO RiceTec, Inc.
Mike is RiceTec’s Chief Executive Officer, having assumed responsibility for the position upon joining the company in 2014. Mike has been engaged with production agriculture and the seed industry for over 35 years. Prior to joining RiceTec, he served as an executive with DuPont Pioneer, responsible for global seed production operations. Mike has played an active role in the seed industry as a member of the American Seed Trade Association Board of Directors, including Chairman in 2011/2012, and the International Seed Federation Board of Directors. He was appointed to a term on the USDA Agricultural Trade Advisory Committee by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture in 2013. Mike has also been a member of numerous nonprofit boards and advisory panels, including the Iowa State University Seed Science Center, Iowa 4H Foundation, ChildServe and, most recently, the First the Seed Foundation. Mike earned his degree in Agronomy from Iowa State University.
Executive Vice President of Business Development
Ken is Executive Vice President of Business Development for RiceTec. He is responsible for development in new international markets and commercial strategies for new technologies. He has held this position since joining RiceTec in 2008. Ken has over 30 years of executive-level experience in the global agricultural seed industry, where he has worked on numerous seed crops, including rice, cotton, alfalfa, grass, soybean and corn. As Vice President of the International division of Delta and Pine, he managed the introduction of high-yielding cotton seed into several countries. Ken has served as President and a Board member of the Western Seed Association and the Field Seed Institute of North America, and chaired a division of the American Seed Trade Association. Ken earned his MBA from the University of Illinois.
Larry G. Haugen
Vice President of US Production and Asset Management
Larry began his career at RiceTec in 1987 as Production Manager of what was then Farms of Texas Company. Larry’s primary responsibility was varietal rice seed production for both the Seed Business Unit and the RiceSelect Consumer Business Unit. At this same time, RiceTec began acquiring hybrid parent lines from the Hunan Hybrid Rice Research Center in China, and Larry began working with Chinese scientists in hybrid rice production development. This early work led to RiceTec becoming the first company in the world to mechanize hybrid rice seed production. Over nearly 30 years at RiceTec, Larry has held several positions, including VP Production Director and General Manager. Larry is currently serving on the Rice Merchants Board and the PAC Board with the USA Rice Federation. In addition, Larry serves on subcommittees for Latin America Trade Policy and Western Hemisphere Rice Promotion. Larry holds a B.S. degree in Biology and an M.S. degree in Plant Pathology from the University of Minnesota.
Vice President of Research and Global New Product Development Lead
Jose Re is Vice President of Research and Global New Product Development Lead for RiceTec. He began his career with the company in 2004 and has held several positions of responsibility in plant breeding for both the U.S. and South America. During Jose’s 30-year career in the seed industry, he has led the development of new hybrids for a variety of crops. Jose has served on several industry boards, including the American Seed Trade Association and U.S. Plant Variety Protection (PVP). Jose holds a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Genetics from Oregon State University.
Director of Information Technology
John Wright is RiceTec’s Director of Information Technology, a position he has held since joining RiceTec in 2019. John has 18+ years of experience leading global IT organizations for companies in oil & gas, manufacturing, and engineering. John is responsible for identifying and implementing technologies that enhance product quality, seed production and customer service. John earned his Bachelors of Business Administration in Management Information Systems and Marketing from Texas Tech University.
Director of Sales and Technical Services
Van is currently Director of Sales and Technical Services for RiceTec. He helped build the company’s Technical Services department, starting when he joined the company in 1997. Van now heads up both the sales and service organizations and has presided over RiceTec becoming the clear leader of the U.S. rice seed market. Van earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Arkansas and his Master of Science in Biology from Arkansas State University.
Director of Quality, Innovation and International Production
Tim is RiceTec’s Director of Quality, Innovation and International Production. He began his career with RiceTec in 2010. Prior to that, he had a lengthy career in global production and manufacturing, overseeing a variety of crops including corn, soybeans, cotton, canola, sorghum and sunflower seed. Tim earned his B.S. in Ag Technology from Iowa State University and is a graduate of Stanford’s Executive Leadership Development program.
Oswaldo Lopez Sanchez
Human Resources Global Lead
Oswaldo is RiceTec’s Global Lead for Human Resources, a position he assumed upon joining the company in 2012. He is responsible for setting the strategy and direction for RiceTec’s Human Resources around the world, including workforce planning, organizational development, health and safety, and community outreach. Oswaldo has 20 years of International Human Resource experience, including 10 in the Agriculture Industry. He currently serves as a member of the Management Skills Committee for ASTA. Oswaldo earned his B.A. and MBA from the Tecnológico de Monterrey.
Qi Ren Chu
Consultant to CEO
Dr. Chu joined RiceTec in 2005 where he has served as Senior Director and China Coordinator in Line Development, and Traits and Technology. His experience includes working for a leading China seed company as Vice President of Yuan Longping High-Tech, where he directed research and business development in Asia and Africa. Prior to joining RiceTec, Dr. Chu was a tenured professor and rice breeder at LSU for 11 years. He previously served as Director General of the Agro-Biotechnology Research Center, Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences (SAAS). Dr. Chu has written 3 books and numerous articles, and holds US patents relative to rice genetics, breeding, and biotechnology. In total he has 40 years of rice research experience, and which has resulted in the release of numerous rice varieties and germplasm. He has worked with IRRI, and as expert of IAEA. Dr. Chu received a B.S. in Biology from Shanghai Normal University in China; an M.S. in Plant Genetics and Breeding from the International Rice Research Institute in the Philippines; a Ph.D. in Genetics from Louisiana State University in the US; and a Certificate of Scientific Management from Shanghai Science Management University in China.
